Suzanne Kauer

Suzanne Kauer was born and raised in southeastern Idaho (near Grand Teton and Yellowstone Parks), but comes most recently from Michigan State University where she was teaching and supervising pre-service teachers and working on her PhD in Curriculum, Teaching, and Educational Policy.  As of this writing she is working on her dissertation, which involves parent objections to secondary English curriculum in schools.  She received her MA in East Asian Studies from Washington University in St. Louis, where she focused on Japanese literature in translation.  Suzanne holds a secondary teaching license in English and Japanese and taught middle and high school English, Japanese, and Journalism for five years in St. George, Utah (near Zion and Bryce Canyon National Parks).  She has a BA in English Education from Brigham Young University in Provo. Her research and reading interests include issues of diversity and equity in schools and in English classes and curriculum specifically, including the impact and implications of students’ heritage and cultural background on their educational experiences.  She is currently looking for national parks to explore near her new Virginia home.   E-mail: skauer@radford.edu
